Stick Pins into My Nails
There was once a little girl who lived amongst the green forests in a small log cabin.
It was always snowing where she lived and all she could see was a vast palette of white and blue before her, with tiny specks of green.
Bedtime was early for little girls in the huge forest as mama would tuck her in every night.
You see, the little girl yearned for more to do, yet she was afraid to venture out into the forest alone.
Winter came early that year and the little girl was cooped up in her log cabin.
She looked out through her tiny windows with dreamy eyes.
Then, out of a sudden, she saw another log cabin in the distance, with windows gleeming in the pale sunlight.
The little girl caught her breath and pulled herself closer to the window ledge.
Then, she saw her face staring back at her, from the other window!
Surprised and a little scared, she squinted and peered harder.
It wasn't her, nor was it another little girl, it was in fact a little boy, with face as pale as her's and eyes as blue as cornflowers in spring.
All through winter, all the little girl could do was look at the little boy and wonder what he was doing in that little log cabin of his.
Then the little girl had an idea.
Everyday, she wrote on a piece of parchment, what she wanted to do with the little boy.
You see, the little girl was lonely and wanted a playmate.
Winter grew long and her little list was not so little anymore.
Each day, before bedtime, the little girl would read her not so little list and wish the little boy could come over to play.
Then, she would put the list into a box by her bedside.
Many winters came and gone and the little girl was not so little anymore.
One day, the girl opened her long forgotten box and read the list.
She laughed and chided herself on her childhood whims.
However, the girl was still curious about the boy and decided to set out and find the little boy.
On the way there, she thought of many things and stories to tell the little boy.
However, no matter where she turned or walked, she could not find the boy's log cabin.
The girl grew puzzled and wondered where the log cabin was.
In the cold wilderness the girl searched and looked and she grew colder and colder.
Her tears froze on her face in the cold and in the blur of snow and wind, she dropped her wooden box.
It flung open and the parchment got caught in the wind and flew up into the air.
The little girl had no choice but to wait for her mama and papa to come fetch her.
When they finally did, they were greatly puzzled, for the girl had only walked ten times round their own log cabin.
