Peeping Through the Blinds
Another day in the office again... I actually love these few hours before Bossman comes in where I get the whole office to myself, for me to catch up on other people's lives by blog-reading, sit in quiet and contemplate while I watch the sun seep in through my rattan blinds.
I got to write Christmas cards later to my mum, Gary and a nameless depressive, with the last being most difficult to pen. I'm reading a letter that Ash penned for me a couple of days ago, in efforts to revive those note-passing days during boring lectures, complete with the whole retro "Old skool" look of ball pen ink on a torn piece of notebook paper. I know I've probably said this one time too many, but hell yeah we've come a long way. Well at least I know I have.
I told someone recently that my resolutions for the year 2004 was to (a) Never settle for second best and (b) Not be such a pushover. I think I've achieved a pretty good percentage of both (a) and (b). I have not let myself settle for second best (to that point that I don't think I'd ever settle, hur hur) and I've learnt a lot about being pushed around. Throughout the year, I've cried and ranted more than I've laughed. I've gone poor more than I've splurged. I've tried more than I have in other years. 2003 was no doubt a fucked up year. 2004 was one whereby I learnt the most about love, loss and life. I seriously hope 2005 will be one where I get to revel in the fruits of my lessons.
Nevertheless, I've gone past hissing and spitting in angst and true Alanis bitterness at whatever 2004 has thrown at me. I think I've gone beyond that. Ironically speaking, I've been having this nagging feeling that I should be much more thankful for what I have derived from 2004. I feel that I've not given enough thanks for what I have now. Though I spent most of the year bitter and penniless (haha), I've managed to have to most outrageous, random, out of this world experiences.
From crazy chi-chi parties, money thrown on pool tables, wandering around "rastafari land", increased alchohol consumption, crazy vday hotel stays, hotel rendezvous breakfast pigging outs, a multitude of stupid but "neccessary" ad events, impromptu trips to KL to fantastic peranakan cuisine in a warm home, its been crazy.
This is also the first year that I am "officially" buying Christmas presents for people. Sounds dumb but it marks something new to me. Having spent bulk of my previous paycheck on presents for others rather than for myself, I'm now on borderline, going to be very poor soon. But it feels good.
I shall post pics of my random, crazy trip to KL with the most randomest of people that you'd never imagine soon. It was a well deserved break. A very well deserved break. I shall also try very hard to thank God for continously showering me with blessings in disguises as well as throwing in the weirdest of dramas and circumstances in my way. (whoops, was I supposed to say that? -cowers-)
Oh god, now I got to write Christmas cards. BAH.
